The mission of every Infectious Awareables tie is to generate interest, discussion, even excitement about serious public health issues such as this silk Swine Flu H1N1 tie in black.
Believing that humor can be a powerful educational tool, Infectious Awareables neckties take an atypical, slightly irreverent approach to some very serious subjects.

The current Swine Flu (H1N1) strain is a mélange of genetic RNA sequences from three separate hosts: piggy, bird and human. By a process called “reassortment” (sounds a lot like “mutation” to us, but we are nothing, if not techno-accurate!) a new strain is formed which may be highly virulent and transmissible.
While the full implications of the threat are not yet determined, vaccines are in development for immunization to specific demographics. It’s important that the public educate itself about this flu and its potential in order to make reasonable determinations for themselves and their families.
This dazzling design features individual RNA strands from each host; the resulting H1N1 combo-strain composed of all three; and individual H1N1 viruses “accessorizing” the pandemic pattern.
A back-of-tie "Awareness Note" and a source citation are incorporated in the pattern design, which reads:
"SWINE FLU VIRUS (H1N1) is a genetic hybrid composed of RNA sequences from pig, bird and human hosts. By process of reassortment, a new strain is formed which may be highly virulent and transmissible with potential of causing worldwide pandemic."
