Pt. 1 – Online Dating
When every day on the news all you hear about is a Global Pandemic COVID-19 and the need to Social Distance, dating may not be the first thing that comes to mind; however at the end of the day, when you have finished working from home and you have settled in for the evening the lonely kicks in and you may be tempted to get back on those dating apps and see what’s out there. Being single and trying to date in 2020 is a struggle without a Global Pandemic cramping your style. But what are you supposed to do when you meet someone that really catches your eye but #SocialDistancing is the trending hashtag?
There are so many online dating tools out there! Websites such as Zoosk, Plenty of Fish, Match, EHarmony, and Apps like Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, and hundreds more make it easier and easier to make that first connection, but then what? You email and text back and forth for a while and feel like you are ready for the next step. When the country is under strict “shelter in place” regulations due to COVID-19, what is the next step after so many texts? Maybe a phone call? Or better yet, face-time to see if that profile picture matches the real thing. Let’s say you are really feeling that connection and want to be creative and stand out from the rest of the people she/he is talking to, what do you do? You really want her/him to know you are interested without endangering either of you. Here are a few suggestions to take your new online relationship the next step while social distancing.
Facetime Dinner Date
Suggest you order a pizza together, at the same time from the same place, then eat together over facetime. You can chat through dinner as if she/he was right across the table from you. Note: If you want to buy dinner, offer to Venmo cash to pay as opposed to asking for her/his address to send the pizza to. And be sure to dress the part for your date. No showing up in sweats.
Make a Meal Together
During a conversation maybe you talked about a meal you always wanted to try to make, and she/he thought it sounded delicious! If both of you get the ingredients and then facetime as you cook it could be a fun way to keep the conversation going as you prepare a delicious meal. You should plate your meal as if eating in a fine restaurant and compare plating skills. After a few glasses of wine, it could make the conversation playful and fun as you prepare, cook, and then enjoy your meal.
Watch TV Shows & Movies “Together”
During one of your first conversations, she was shocked that you never saw the movie Top Gun! So why not take this opportunity to watch it at the same time! Then when it is over, get back on a call and talk about the movie. Sure you are missing the cuddles that go along with movie time but it will give you a new topic to talk about. And then next time, you pick the movie!
Play Multiplayer Online
There are several Multiplayer games in the app store that will let you play together. A few examples are Yahtzee or the Hasbro collection. You can play a mean game of Scrabble, Monopoly or maybe even the Game of Life. And while you play, you can keep the conversation going via internal chat.
Take a cue from your friend in a long-distance relationship
The connections you have with someone when all you are able to do is talk on the phone are so much deeper than the casual meet up at the bar and heading home. If you both are still interested in getting to know each other once you have been on a virtual date or two spend extra time talking. Share stores about your childhood or the silly things you did as a teenager, maybe even that time you got in trouble in the 6th grade. Share your dreams, your goals and really get to know her/him. Be vulnerable and open up. Then, when you are able to get back out and have your first date in person you will have built a true foundation to grow from.
Desperate times call for desperate measures and all of these suggestions are great ways to the next level get to know someone you would like to know better! Have a great time and make the best of a crazy situation.
