Ties.com intern Hana

Our team is excited to be able to run an internship program at the Ties.com HQ that immerses students and young professionals in all of the behind-the-scenes activity of an e-commerce company. We consistently have exceptional, diverse, and creative interns who become part of our crazy family and teach us a thing or two along the way. In this Intern Spotlight, we are thrilled to introduce Hana Brannigan, our fall marketing intern.

Name: Hana Brannigan

School: University of California, Davis (I walked in commencement Spring 2017 and officially graduate Fall 2017)

Internship: Marketing/Copy Writer

What do you like about interning here?

There are a couple reasons why I enjoy interning here. The first is that the company realizes the importance of social media. I don’t just say this because I’m a millennial, but almost the entire world is online and it’s important to keep up with the trends and changing times in order to stay relevant. Some companies aren’t as open-minded, and that’s where a lot them fall behind. I feel like I gained a greater understanding of how social media really works as an advertising/marketing tool while interning here. And I learned useful skills that you just don’t really learn in a classroom.

I also really enjoy the working environment. It’s intimate, which is nice because I feel like that created a more welcoming and supportive environment. I also appreciated how much I was trusted with the social media accounts and the ideas I had for those accounts/The Gentlemanual.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself working in social media, maybe doing marketing or handling customer service. Working here showed me how much I do enjoy being creative on social media. There is so much room to be creative to figure out how to make your brand stand out and I thrive on that.

How is this internship helping you get there?

The internship is helping me get there because I’m literally doing what I’ve wanted to explore in terms of career options. I’ve learned a lot of useful marketing skills and I also surprised myself with my creativity (i.e. coming up with ideas for Instagram stories, coming up with posts and how to optimize those posts, coming up with marketing ideas, etc.). It’s been a while since I was able to be so creative like I can here.

What is one thing you didn’t know before working here?

I actually learned quite a bit while here even though I consider myself a social media nerd. But the main thing I didn’t know before working here is how to do influencer outreach. I have my own Instagram and I get reached out to by companies, so it was a learning experience being on the other end. It’s definitely a useful skill since I want to continue working in social media.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to watch Game of Thrones (I’m late to jump on the train, or dragon, but I’m on Season 6 and I’m obsessed!), go to Disneyland (because I live in SoCal and it’s almost a sin to not have a pass), go to concerts, work on my Instagram (@hungrygirl325…shameless plug), and pet puppies and dogs.

One Fun Fact: I am First Princess of Miss Vietnam Sacramento (a beauty pageant). I’m actually half Vietnamese and half Irish, so that was fun trying to (re)learn the Vietnamese I had to speak during the pageant!
