Our team is excited to be able to run an internship program at the Ties.com HQ that immerses students and young professionals in all of the behind-the-scenes activity of an eCommerce company. We consistently have exceptional, diverse, and creative interns who become part of our crazy family and teach us a thing or two along the way. In this Intern Spotlight, we are thrilled to introduce Kathy Phan, our spring marketing intern.

Ties.com intern Kathy

Name: Kathy

School: California State University, Long Beach

Internship: Fashion Copywriter Intern

What do you like about interning here?

I like the laidback atmosphere in the office. Everyone is super friendly and the puppies running around literally make my day.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I want to have travelled to at least seven countries. I’m already knocking off four this summer while travelling abroad in Europe! I also really want to have my own dog (or two).

How is this internship helping you get there?

Researching and finding various influencers and bloggers from all over the world inspires the wanderlust in me because I look at their photographs of places they’ve been and sights they’ve seen and it makes me want to go there too.

What is one thing you didn’t know before working here?

I didn’t know how much time and effort goes into social media marketing and the importance of honing a cohesive voice that speaks to the brand and company’s key messages. I feel that marketing is something that outsiders view as somewhat glamorous because they only see the creative and artistic side of it. They don’t see the dirty work behind the scenes that go into everything, which is something I’ve learned the hard way.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Not going to lie, I eat a lot during my free time. Either that or I’m looking at pictures of food on social media. I’m also in a sorority and that takes up a good chunk of my leisure time in between philanthropy events and sisterhood bonding time.

One Fun Fact:

I’m a huge dog lover, especially corgis. But I’m also really allergic to them.
